SIMPLE FRAMING SOLUTIONS FOR WORKS ON PAPER

We’ll begin with works on paper, as opposed to canvas or other more-textured materials such as needlework or tapestries. Works on paper mean literally that: a photograph, an original drawing or watercolor, an art print or lithograph, anything on paper. All works on paper are generally framed with a mat and placed under glass. The mat serves several purposes. It ensures that the art does not contact the glass of the frame, which would cause moisture buildup and inevitable warps and wrinkles in the art. It also acts as a visual anchor for the framed art, and finally, with a little planning, it’s an easy way to fit an oddly shaped piece of art into a standard-sized premade picture frame (more on that below).
